Monument-du-cinquantenaire à Buea au Cameroun

Buea is located in the southwest region of Cameroon, specifically in the Fako district and the provincial capital. Buea is located about 1,000 meters above sea level, an area of 25,410 km² and a population estimated at nearly 1,500 000. Buea was the German colonial capital of Cameroon from 1901 to 1919. Agriculture is the main economy of the region.

Climbing Mount Cameroon

Also known as the “chariot of the Gods” and located in the city, Mount Cameroon is with 4100 meters not only the highest mountain but also the most active volcano in West Africa. The last eruption was in 2000. The ascent of Mount Cameroon can be made throughout the year, but due to bad weather during the rainy season, we recommend between November and March. However, it is not advisable to attempt the climb without being accompanied by experienced guides. Allow 3 days: two days for the ascent and one day for the descent.

Chateau Jesko von Puttkammer au Cameroun

This Bavarian-style castle was built around 1920 and located in the city is evidence of the German colonial era. It is the former residence of the German governor Jesko von Puttkamer and is now closed to the public and serves as Presidential Palace. The legend says that when night falls, the governor widow haunts the house by playing the piano.

Bismarck Fountain

Bismarck fountain was built in 1899 and dedicated to the first chancellor of the new German Empire Otto von Bismarck.

The German Cemetery
