Rue de Yaounde au Cameroun

Also known as “city of seven hills” the city was founded in 1889 by the German officer and explorer Richard Kund. Yaoundé has played an important role in the occupation of Cameroon by German colonial forces. The city of Yaoundé became in 1922 the capital of French Cameroon. Today, with an area of 304 km² and a population of 2,440,462 inhabitants (2012), it is the political capital of Cameroon and the capital of the Central Region. Yaoundé, Cameroon’s second largest city has a tropical climate year round, due to the altitude, it is not as hot as the cities near the equator.

Mefou national park

Le parc national de la Mefou

Mefou National Park is located about one hour from the city of Yaoundé. It was created in 1999 as a cooperation project between the Cameroonian government and the NGO CWAF (Cameroon Wildlife Aid Foundation) with the aim to provide shelter to primates found in the region. It covers an area of 1,050 hectares and serves as a transition site, most of these animals are released into their original habitat. There are found many species of primates such as: baboons, mandrills, mangabey, gorillas, chimpanzees and talapoins which are among the smallest monkeys in Africa. The Mefou national Park is also indicated for bird watchers. A visit to the Mefou National Park generates useful resources for the survival and the improvement of living conditions for animals.

Ebogo

Ebogo ecotourism site is located a few kilometers from Yaounde and can be described as a haven of relaxation in the quiet of nature. It is excellent for nature lovers. Several tourist activities are offered. You can take canoe trips on the Nyong River, go hiking, go fishing, visit a 300-year-old tree over 12 meters in diameter, visit the parrot island, gaze at the butterflies and let yourself be rocked by birds singing on the horizon and the sounds of the forest.

The tourist center of Nkolandom

Located in the south of Cameroon, the tourist center of Nkolandom offers a prehistoric and modern setting which allows visitors to turn their backs on the daily city stress, to relax and breathe the fresh air of the equatorial forest. The gallery of prehistoric caves gives the center a baroque allure. One is amazed by the immensity of the pieces of granite placed on top of each other, like ancient “Dolmen” about twenty meters high. The Center has a museum “the Negro Arts Museum” which is a place of preservation, conservation, and modernization of Negro-African heritage.
